As an older gay man myself, I love Dennis' mixture of insecurity about his relationship with Kyle because of an age difference and his "I don't give a flying f*ck" attitude. Dennis is both vulnerable and open. Thank you, Greg Fox!
....well, I was gonna start with a naughty X-mas quip, but JM's "dickens' number, got me 'timbers' all shivered UP! ...ha-HAAA!!
...But(t), onto the storyline; ...It's nice that Coach 'Big (D)ennis' & Kyle are asking about past loves, to solidify what they are building, now....Dennis is worried that a younger Man may lose interest in him, and doesn't want to pop the phrase, "...I LOVE You...." , yet.....
...and Kyle worries that his (unlucky) history with Older Men will make Dennis question his union with him.....which, brings us to....BREYER........
....I'm shocked that Breyer was 4 Years younger than Kyle, because he looked like he was in his FIFTIES! ...and, I'm starting to feel that Brey may show up again, unexpectedly.....they were still in Love, and Kyle never stopped loving him (even after his Parkside tryst).....
....and he rocked a pair of black bikini briefs like no OTHER! ...But, a big 'DICK-ens', ALWAYS wins out! ....Batter UP!! ...HA-HAAAA!! .....CHOW!
This discussion is very relatable and relevant; I am in a relationship with a man 18 years younger which works now though in a decade we will be in very different stages of life. Good that Dennis and Kyle are depicted having their own conversation and sharing concerns. And congrats on their finding love together and having nearly a year together.
This brings up an interesting question - how old are the BnB characters? While they are suspended in time (eternally young or otherwise) we also see the passage of time and events: baseball season, the four seasons, Halloween, Christmas, acknowledgment of Olympics, pandemic, George Flood and BLM events, marriage equality in NY State). It would be interesting to see these characters gradually age and in turn address some issues related to that (it worked for Golden Girls and Hot in Cleveland). Four years ago Eduardo mentions to Sergei he's in his early 20s. I would think Kyle should be in his 40s, Dennis believably in his 50s. Most of the characters should be in their 30s-40s, maybe Mannis, Jeremy, Eduardo? and Jason in their late 20s. Brad should be aging out of his baseball career, maybe becoming an assistant coach. Speaking of which - it appears by the final panel Coach really does not like Brad - the comment rings a bit harsh and biting. The feeling seems mutual. Brad's not an entirely likeable person despite his loyalty to Kyle.
One other thing it'd be nice to see (aside from the underutilized members - Delia, Dave, Nick....) is occasional origin stories. We get glimpses , and it'd be interesting to know how some of the characters met, how Kyle came to own the house, Rudy's life in the decades prior, contrast of BnB with previous life in Canada, Russia, Scotland, Kentucky....).
Not to rock Kyle's happiness, but I agree bringing Breyer for a visit would be an interesting twist as they ended abruptly and with some feelings unresolved (if it can be done without rehashing too much of the "cheating" subplot). It would also provide an opportunity to raise the topic of open relationships, something very common and relevant for many gay couples.
I enjoyed the back and forth banter between Coach and Kyle as they played the game of "crappy relationships I have had!" I did a spit-take when Kyle talked about the relationship that ended when he got left "for the wife and kids"! Coach didn't expect that one!
I also like Coach's sensitive yet calloused soul - "Do you like me?" [think Tevye and Golde from "Fiddler on the Roof"] followed by "F-em! Who cares what they think!" Nothing like a good balance in your emotional make up! LOL
...Greg once said that the characters are 'suspended in time', but allows the seasonal 'changes' of Life, to keep to strip up-to-date; I'm still bowled over that Breyer was younger than Kyle, though! ..coulda SWORN he was 54! ..ha-HAA!
....and I've been harpin' for AGES for the characters to have some relatable life changes to bring them up to speed:
- ...Eduardo, graduate from College! - ..Rudy, DIE! (...we have to realize he may '..go'...) - ..Brad, DROP the Baseball leagues thing! - ..Richard, get a JOB! - ..Delia, have a Baby w/ Lisa! - ...Mannis, open a carpentry business! - ..Jeremy, go AWAY!... Levi, STAY!
....and, I see Frank is a "Hot In Cleveland" Fan, TOO! ...I watch it EVERY Night! ....'comfort TV', for Me! ...ha-HAA!
..hell, who HASN'T played the Game of 'crappy relationships'!?? ..between my OWN, I could write a BOOK! ...I remember... :
- the 'straight Gay' Guy - the Bi Couple - the 'secret' Pornstar(s) - the 'surprise' Crush - the Young(er), insatiable Personal Trainer - the German - the 'Good / Bad' One (NO comment...) - the Dealer...that EVERYONE knew, but Me...
...WHEW, It's good I haven't become bitter! ..HA-HAAA!
@renanthesecond2 Great idea - I would love to see a “pillow talk” episode, featuring everyone single or coupled in bed and what their thoughts are before sleeping- or even about what they dream. Would give readers insight into the characters with just a few lines each, and with 9 panels we might see some of the BnB residents we’ve been missing.
@RBS7079 - can’t wait to read your memoirs with a bowl of popcorn and a bottle of Pjur.
@Frank and @RBS7079 - Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks these guys are nudging 40+! No offense Greg Fox, but there IS life after 40 ! These days that is when people have enough disposable income and career security to live a little! 'Course, by then, going to bed at 10 p.m. is a stretch! LOL
@Frank: you make an interesting point about having Breyer show up. To me, this is FAR more interesting than the USUAL Drew/Lance/Price/Jason storyline. I would like to see Breyer's reaction to Kyle's happiness.
Some changes should be made though: (1) have Eduardo GRADUATE!!!!! (2) It's time for Brad to grow up and do something else. (3) When are we going to see an ACTAUL lesbian and trans storyline...? (4) We all know that gay people are more bigoted than straight people, when will we see a storyline about this?
back in my 20's it wasall about sex, I had sex with lots of older guys, it was normally married guys who's wive's were not putting out, so I did. It was great fun everyone got what they wanted/needed but there was never any 'relationship' above just the sex side so this thread is quite interesting Breyer did rock a pair of black briefs (wish he's rocked out nude more but...) and it's not always about the size of the DISK-ens ;) I always thought he was about Kyles age. I kind of liked Breyer but then I also like Mannis & Drew but my fav. is still Jeff - what can I say I'm a sucker for a hairy guy (take that how you will) and add in the thick Scottish accent.... ;)
...Kyle always had the 'spitcurl' styling, but this is EASILY the Best hairdo he's ever had! ...Greg drew the others in a more "Boyband" styling..But.. this rich, auburn / chestnut highlighting is much more aesthetically pleasing...glad YOU noticed it too, Babe.... ; )

Older experienced men know how to get the job done. Bend you over the couch and give you the dickens.

Good episode, but I would prefer if they talked naked in bed...

I don't know how often people tell you this, but I love the way you draw Kyle's hair!
