...Oh, Darren....

...In the previous Episode, Darren mentioned that him & Marc had to keep their relationship, '..down-low..', because of the super religious Families involved, so MAILING a card to Marc's House was NOT good.....

...but, LOVE makes anyone do things with blinders on, and a lack of secretive judgement, especially when it's a FIRST Gay Love...I KNEW Drew would be the best Guy at the B&B to befriend Darren; him, and Mannis are brutishly Masculine, but are good listeners (to their Friends) & have emotionally 'giving' Hearts....

..If this story arc (although the 'PTSD' angle wasn't needed) brings Drew back into the fold more into story-line, I'm all for it, because I LOVE Hot Legs n' thighs under a kilt....

...although it looks short as a Schoolgirls' skirt in Panel 9...Drew, can ya give Britney back her gear, Please!?? ..ha-HAA!!

...work on yourself, Darren, we love ya, CHOW!

Wow, what a powerful, important strip we have from Greg this week. So many themes are introduced: suicide, guilt, outing (inadvertently), family rejection. The best message and advice offered by this storyline is seeking help and support where you can, whether one is feeling responsible for a tragic occurence like Darren, or having the worst thing imaginable happen for Marc. I imagine Darren keeping such a heartbreaking loss to himself is all the more difficult in an openly gay, supportive and unapologetically proud environment like the BnB. It's also illuminating Darren's "PTSD" doesn't emanate from his military service or even policing, rather from a traumatic event in his Texas hometown.

Invasion of privacy. Spreading it around like cheap gossip. That was sheer out and out meanness.

@jjt Unfortunately, many parents quite often do this - to protect and control their children. As described by Darren, it's the parents of a high school senior in conservative Texas who's son received a greeting card from another male. Similarly, parents will read journals and diaries, check phones, etc. It's a challenge for a teen / young adult to be patient and remain closeted until they're out of their childhood home, or independent of their parents' finances. The invasion of privacy by parents is not so unusual.

It's interesting to see Drew sporting a version of the Perez Hilton hair-do in this panel and the previous panel. Also, I've noticed that Levi bears a resemblance to Drew because of the facial hair and green eyes, especially in that image of Levi being declared as the Kyle's B&B man of the year. The only minor differences is that maybe Levi is not as tall as Drew and not as lean.

Tragic story. What is so twisted about this is that his ultra conservative neighbors (maybe NOT his family) will think, "Well, he was a sinner and a sodomite; G-d struck him down. He got what was coming to him" and other f--ked up beliefs.

These sorts of attitudes still exist today, and outside of Texas.

Sad reminder that equality and love for all has a long, long way to go.
