Matt really is short for Matthias? I thought that was just Njord's nickname for him.
Matt's full name is definitely Matthias. In one of his early appearances in the strip, Richard referred to him as Matthew, and Matt corrected him, "It's Matthias, not Matthew".

This is a great show of Lance's character. He's not unemotional, just driven. Great episode.
