....OK, I got a late start today (Cat poo on my comforter...methinks my Cat, Booger, is mad at me...)...So, observations.....(cont.)
1. ....although it's great to see Mannis again (he was gone the ENTIRE Year!) & Rudy, It would've been nice to see how KYLE handled his situation with Coach Dennis....would've made it more personal & intimate for the Reader.....
2. ...I dunno, aside from the weird "...lettuce head smashing...." comment, Mannis seems......NEUTERED....I miss the hotheaded, fiery, confrontational character we were presented with (when he debuted), and his "Love" for Jeremy was NEVER believable, So it's doesn't ring true that he would 'reflect' on how he messed up with Jeremy.....
3. ...I still a tad miffed that Mannis's story arc can't revolve (or, EVOLVE) outside that "Kilt Shoppe" now....It would more believable if it was a CARPENTRY Shop (that had Scottish trait -oriented items to sell), OR a GAY business (that sold "Circuit Party" oriented items ALONG with Scottish Kilts......
....Or, maybe I want just Mannis OUTTA that 'Kilt' in SOME capacity! ...ha-HAAA! ....CHOW......
This was a nice follow up to the Kyle/Dennis story. It would have been typical to see the "breakup" depicted with tears and hugs - here we see two characters reflect the story. Wonderful to see Mannis again, and keeping in character he demonstrates he's a true romantic beneath the rough persona. His relationship with Jeremy was believable when considering the post breakup lustful encounter they had, and Mannis' anger at Jeremy not wanting to marry for love and the practicality of U.S. residency for Mannis. It was more believable than the Levi / Jeremy romance that came from nowhere - seemingly a plot device to eliminate some characters. Mannis sees love and the challenges of relationships in a straightforward way, juxtaposed with Rudy, who's older, perhaps more practical and can relate to Coach wanting (and needing) to pursue career goals and financial stability as he ages - something young people with many years ahead might not consider.
Kyle and Dennis may well continue their relationship. St. Louis isn't so far, flights can be cheap. Dennis will have vacation time and Kyle can make his own schedule. The BnB is more of a rooming house than a business - the residents can make their own breakfast and share cleaning / maintenance duties. Absence makes the heart grow fonder; imagine the intense / steamy reunions when the two reconnect. There would at least be the promise of physical / romantic interaction - more than Richard has with the "F-word" on his phone. Speaking of long distance - Mannis seems to be pining for Jeremy - perhaps he needs to visit Hawai'i and rekindle his love (or at least form a long-distance throuple with Jeremy and Levi). That'd be some real Hawai'ian heat.
It's looking like Kyle may finally be Person of the Year in his namesake comic strip.
...alright Frankie baby, you GOT me! ...ha-HAA! ...you see the 'romantic' side of the Mannis character more than me, who sees him as a 'Steve McQueen' type, who bangs rumps and decides if it's good enough to put a RING on....so to SPEAK! ...ha-HAAA!
....and, methinks you have sumpthin' there, with Mannis visiting Jeremy in Hawaii; it could take the strip OUTSIDE it's main 'venue', allow Greg to sketch, educate & romanticize Hawaii, and get Levi back into the story arc, because he's SORELY missed, for a bisexual schlub with great Hair and a BIG ASS!
...mmmm, he reminds me of Beau Butler......uh, I gotta GO.......HA-HAA! ....Chow-CHOW....
I'd like to see Rudy have a relationship . He hasn't had anyone in his life since that near fatal encounter with that lookalike impostor so many years ago.
I feel like something like this should had come from the side of Kyle and Dennis instead of having Rudy giving the summary of what happened. How long before we see Mannis again? hopefully not too long
@Frank I agree Mannis and Jeremy's relationship was more believable than this supposed relationship between Jeremey and Levi that came out of nowhere. I am still somewhat upset with how it came out of nowhere and they are so in love and then Levi is shipped to Hawaii .
Wow - I read this strip, asking myself, "Who's the 15-year-old boy walking out of Rudy's kilt shop? Is he someone's gay nephew!??" Imagine my surprise when I realized that it is "broccoli-headed boy" Kyle. I'm with RBS7079 - Not loving the hair.
I think that having other characters talk about the Coach/Kyle story arc is a great transition to them - Hello, remember "Mannis" Mr. multiyear favorite character winner? Oh, yeah -him! And the "Old gay guy" representing Stonewall and before - Rudy! Yep, still alive and kicking!
I think a store, with plenty of foot traffic, is the perfect place to introduce new characters and reintroduce old ones. "I just got into town and I saw this Kilt store. Naturally I had to check it out, and HELLL-OOO there! A Scotsman in the flesh on this side of the pond! Show me your sporrans! " LOL
Here's looking forward to some more surprises, old friends, whatever!

Mannis wants to smash something else besides heads of lettuce.
