Although an interesting exploration of AI's potential drawbacks, hopefully this arc is drawing to a conclusion. The main issue, as RBS7079 mentioned, is the expense of exciting development for other B&B characters. Maybe Richard will escape the car and walk to the kilt shop (even on Long Island, that can be done). A great plot would have us readers, err, I meant Richard saved from a future with Fletch not by Dave, rather by Rocco, who forgot to mention his M.S. in Computer Science from Brooklyn College. Rocco and Richard passionately kiss, rush to the bedroom to **** then all the B&B residents abruptly barge in, interrupting their coitus to bring pancakes and make snide remarks about their nudity. Hopefully Fletch won’t return in the future as a cyborg.
@Frank - Totally agree with your solution! First of all, Richard forgot that putting his iPhone in a bag is useless. Tracking software will still know where he is. I guess he can try shutting off the phone and taking out the SIM card, but he is supposed to be technically illiterate, so he probably doesn't know what to do.
The other guys are all at the kilt shop, so Richard could walk to the shop, as @Frank says, and get help. That will refresh a bunch of storylines at one time. He just has to avoid anything connected to the Internet. In this scenario, even if he turned off the car, Fletcher could probably start it and chase him. Again, if Richard knew anything, he could just look under the hood of the car and disconnect the spark plugs and the alternator. Definitely Rocco territory!
Kudos to Greg Fox for his innovative, timely, Halloween story! It potentially gives a number of the characters a chance to shine and show off their various skills in IT, auto mechanics and general derring-do! Not to mention muscular bodies in tight clothes! LOL
