...O-no....JEREMY TRANG is B-AAA-CK!!?? Oh, nonononononoNO!!
I thought he was buried under the house...should've stayed there!
AND, to those who may suggest that because he is of Asian descent..N-O.
I personally don't feel the need for 'Richard 2.0'.. Rich has been growing somewhat, and I am hoping for more intriguing storylines, relationship arcs, and overall MATURITY to happen to his character, so only to have Jerem-wannabe to come in, indicates that Rich is too dated, and may be replaced...anyone agree?! :(
OK, back to the main story at hand...The Russian 'has name'...SERGEI!! Love how Greg unveils his hotness slowly...here, I wanna climb on that peekaboo Chest & Sturdy Tummy! and, WHY is Jake fighting this?!
I'm beginning to believe that Jake seems to have 'issues' in regards to what he REALLY wants. He complains that he doesn't like young, shallow, effeminate, flighty Gay Men, and yet, doesn't want to be open to what his Maturity should sense / dictate at his age....Jake, if you don't climb on that Russian Porcupine....ha-HAA!! : )
..oh, by the by, I got a little chuckle at "I was Dick?" Greg rarely lets 'colorful' slang fly at the B&B, but this was cute...
PLEASE, have Sergei show more 'flesh-ei'..I'm starting to fall for him...maybe he can sit on Jeremy for me... DA! ha-HAA!!
...CHOW, all! : )
okay sorry but that guy is a COMPLETE prick...to not say worse.
Sergei the Russian Bear! Woof! I hope Jake reaches a detente with him!
"We all know most Asians like white men no matter how they look"? For someone who doesn't see a stereotype, it sure sounds like a very broad generalization about Asians are into, kind if racist actually...
Stereotype: a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
Would it be wrong to assume that the majority of people in West Hollywood are as conceited and one dimensional as the Asians you seem to know so much about?
I hope Jake does the right thing and either ends things with Ed first before being with this excuse of a man, or never see Sergei again. Tear up that paper!
Oh dear, the evil Russian bear is back.
@Yren I've asked that the comment be looked into. Yes, you're correct. It was tactless and hopefully it'll be removed.
That said, I'm liking this plotline, but I'm kind of hoping it doesn't go in the direction we expect. I want Jake and Ed to somehow work it out. May/December romances and partnerships do work.
Guess we'll see.
2 comments deleted. I don't enjoy doing it, but a line was crossed.
You were doing so good, Jack. And then you had to go ruin it with the deliberately inflammatory comments.
We could discuss WHY this happened, but we all know why. And we're not playing that game here anymore. Not on my watch.
Wildcat:
I'm glad that you deleted my posts. It means nothing to have some "acceptance" here from some people. I stand by what I was trying to imply which is: gay people are some of the most racist on this earth. We do not all have this "kumbaya" moment. In fact, it is even worse than straight people...I could really care less as to WHY this happened and the sordid people here got upset because they can't keep up with me in terms of actual conversation. It's eerily similar to the white gay men that continue to support Trump per se. Now we could discuss WHY that is but we?
Jack
Given what happened on February 14th, it's pretty obvious Eduardo likes Jake and wants it to work. As much as I like Sergei, it pretty obvious he's honing in on Jake's insecurity about his relationship with Eduardo. Sergei even says as much in today's seventh panel.
This is important because it's a huge dynamic in gay relationships: age differences.
It's a noteworthy topic and timely. It's also another reason I love this comic strip. A lot of it is tongue-and-cheek, but it also touches on topics worthy of civil discussion.
Keep up the great work.
Nope, don't like Sergei, and don't like "romances" that start off this way. Most of the time, when someone you meet is a jerk, it's not a "meet-cute" -- they're just a jerk.
And if you DO end up dating someone who gave you a first impression that they were a jerk, they will almost certainly leave that as a LAST impression, too, when you eventually wake the f up and dump them.
Finally, all this denigrating of romances between guys who have any kind of age difference is baloney. Some of the best, long-term relationships are between guys of different ages, and some of the worst, most self-destructive relationships are between guys of similar ages.
I'm not on board with this pairing AT ALL. I'd rather see Eduardo's "talk" with Jake be more about deepening their relationship than a breakup, and if we never see Sergei again I'll be fine with that.
We might not all get the privilege to have a drum circle, but at least from the people I have gotten to know over the years - we do not come to conclusions based solely on personal experience, nor that of people with a sphere of influence, like Trump.
"Make America Great Again" - when did America become something lackluster?
Of course, as long as people with similar ideologies stay among themselves, they COULDN'T care less what someone with differing views think.
How does this pertain to the comic: Jake is in a spot where he's still figuring out his identity as a gay man. Is this what I'm supposed to like? How am I supposed to act? Am I masculine enough? Do I act "gay"? What will people think?
Ed wants it to work. Sure, he's younger and has different ideas of having a good time, but that hasn't stopped people from being together.
Then this guy comes along with his view and lays in the insults trying to be this domineering big man who supposedly knows how the world works. I'm sure that these kinds of people are as vacuous and inconsiderate when confronted with rebuke, especially when having a serious conversation.
Wouldn't be surprised too if Sergei was like that. I could be wrong though, who knows? (Greg does! lol)
As the younger person in an intergenerational relationship, there have been instances where things went over my head (WebTV?), but we both share common interests too, like nude sunbathing at the beach, raising monarchs, camping, watching me try and hoard plants at a garden sale with no money, etc.
I completely agree with Ardenwolfe and Mike on this. I just hope Jake can find what it is to be himself, instead of what he feels he should be.
Yren definitely hits on one of the things that really bugged me about Sergei -- in his introduction, even though he knows NOTHING about Jake and Eduardo other than their appearance and age difference, he still thinks that's enough for him to be justified in making a snide remark about them (which he then tries to pass off as a "joke", but please, get real). I don't care what your feelings are about relationships with age differences, that's just a flat-out jerk move to make with someone you do not know.
Plus, if Sergei IS interested in Jake and this is his way of flirting, it touches on ANOTHER pet peeve of mine, that some gay men think it's perfectly okay to try to break up a couple. That's also evidence of bad character.
If this is the FIRST impression Sergei makes, it's a particularly poor one in my book. I think Sergei is pretty toxic from what we've seen so far, and Jake doesn't deserve that. Eduardo is looking more and more golden by comparison!
If I could give an award for Best Commentary of the Year, Yren would win it. Hear, hear! And well said.
...Oh Yren, Yren....can I take your post and frame it, please?! : )
Yren's VERY introspective post seems to have changed my perception of Jake - his coming to terms with his placing in the Gay community as an Middle aged Gay Man gives the character more depth I didn't EVEN notice. I blindingly just wanted him to pair with Sergei, because I thought (looks wise) that he was more of a 'Bear Fit'. SO sorry!
But, I was not even thinking of Eduardo's placing of trying to make this relationship work. I even said in previous posts that I've been wanting character growth for Ed, now THIS can bring it. He seems to want to 'talk' with Jake, but (to me) the Spartacus Club setting threw things off.
Which now brings us to SERGEI...poster Mike REALLY brings the heat, doesn't he?! (no offense, Mike!;)) I've said prior that a good deal of the B&B Boys meet the same way Jake / Sergei did - with the 'hate/love at first sight' thing. AND, I believe that Greg's creating of Sergei as a 'Russian' Man is to convey his brusqueness to open the storyline with a broader sense; to see where this character arc can twist next.
I thought this was just a 'wrap it up with a new Romance for Jake' plot-line, but, NOW, I DO want Ed / Jake to make it work, to fight for a chance at May / December TRUELOVE. and I'm now intrigued by this Story Arc - Sergei's making a VERY controversial impact on the commentators!
Yren, Baby, thanks for opening my eyes UP - hope you get a good deal on the next Spring Garden sale!! ha-HAA! : )
CHOW!! : )
No offense taken, RBS! We're all just discussing fictional characters anyway! :-)
Haha! Thank you, Ardenwolfe, RBS7079 and Mike! I'm grateful that this discussion is/was possible with no belittlement or sarcasm. I wish empathy was more prevalent.
Regarding plant sales, the next possible one I might be able to go to would be the last weekend in April - 2+ hours away. The thing is I need to save that money (immediately) because I'll be heading to Boston for vacation with hubby! I plan on doing every thing I possibly can over there: Carnival in PTown, chocolate buffet at The Langham, Duck tours (surprisingly, he's never been on one, since he's from Worcester) and of course, visit his family over there.
Well . . . the insult and stereotyping-free discussion was nice while it lasted.
I'm not really insulted, I just feel kind of sorry for Jack. He really needs to get a better social circle in real life if that's all he thinks of gay men. (And that he feels the need to go on, at length, in a comment section of a comic about it? Kinda feel like we should all visit him and take him out for a drink and show him some positive role models!)
I'm not saying I've NEVER met any gay guys who aren't kind of like what he describes, but they've hardly been the majority, thankfully.
Here's my thing: I'll not disparage anyone's experience with any persons. But I'll be damned if I disparage an entire community based on my experiences with a select-few persons. And I certainly wouldn't go on and on about it in the comment section of a comic strip based solely on FICTIONAL characters.
And here's the other thing:If you are repeatedly the only person saying this, so much so that your comments have been removed, and people not only find your comments venomous, but outright racist, stereotyping, tripe. And not once, but repeatedly? It might not be everyone else.
It might be you.
And I've said this before, and I'll say it again: This person needs to be banned from the comment section. The only drama we ever have is due to this person. And I know, for a fact, that others refused to comment because of him and his vitriol.
The community comes to this site to be entertained. Not to be insulted and trolled with blanket statements that are not only untrue, but made by someone who has obvious personal problems. This the comment section for Kyle's Bed & Breakfast comic strip. It is not the comment section for Kyle's Theorycraft & Ranting Against Gay Men.
And the kicker part? If some homophobic, straight troll did even a hint of what this person has done here? We wouldn't even be having this discussion. He'd be gone. Being gay does not give you a pass at being a fool.
Enough is enough already.
This is the question Greg needs to ask: Do I want a comment section where people discuss my work in a civil and mature manner as happened earlier? Or do I want a toxic comment section where one person, and only one person, creates an environment that leads not to open and mature discussion, but personal attacks not only on a person, but an entire community? The very community that I want to entertain and hopefully sell my works to? Where the discussion isn't about my work, but this one person's tilted and so-called observations about the community he openly insults . . . repeatedly?
The answer is now beyond obvious. Please do what needs to be done. And then we can return to the mature and insightful discussion about the characters and the comic strip. Not the continued, hateful, and narrow view ONE person wants to always post about instead.
Thank you.
Jack, you can "imagine" that I live in a fantasy world, but I don't. I live in the real world, where I spent many years living in a real city with a real gay night life and I had many gay friends and I went out to a wide variety of gay bars and met an astonishing variety of gay men.
And I found that gay men have all of the failing and foibles of... every other human being on the planet.
I'm afraid, Jack, that you are the one with the blinders on. You see only what you want to see. You only acknowledge things that already fit into your narrow tunnel vision view of what gay men are like. And so you've probably missed out, time and again, meeting gay men who don't fit that stereotype.
Because, Jack, out here in the real world, most of us don't fit into your stereotype. Which suggests to me that you either haven't tried really hard to meet us, or you have met us and dismissed us -- imagining that we were just like your stereotype of all other gay men but you didn't actually bother to get to know us well enough to realize you're wrong.
Whatever the reason behind it -- and you aren't the first jaded cynical man I've ever encountered! -- I do feel sorry for you because you create and sustain this situation. It's not about any of the rest of us, it's not about "how gay men are" -- Jack, it's how YOU are.
So, no, I don't see the gay community as it should be, I see it as it actually is, as I've actually experienced it, with actual, real gay men I've bothered to take the time to get to know.
Why would you imagine I don't know who the Log Cabin Republicans are? I've been around a long time, friend. And I know the LCR are a troubled very small group of our larger community.
In my youth I made the mistake of dating a closeted gay Republican politician, but that was a first and a last for me!
I don't know if you want to be happier, or find a better group of friends, or stop judging people so quickly or so harshly. That's up to you. But no, a lot of your ideas about gay men aren't gospel truth, and you don't have as firm a grasp on "reality" as you think you do.
And because you are so adamant that "all gay men are shallow and bigoted" or whatever, you are having trouble actually meeting those of us who aren't any of those things. Because that's what this kind of thinking does to people -- it causes them to reject anything that doesn't fit into their narrow world view. Because you think that gay men are ALL a certain way you won't ever see that most of us aren't.
And yeah, I still think that's sad. And I hope some day you can move beyond such a limited view of your fellow men. Nobody should go through life feeling that frustrated, alone, and angry, especially when it's more about their own attitude than about others. You do deserve better and you can have it. But you have to let go of your negativity and prejudices first.
Well said, Mike. Well said.
You know, I've posted and read forums since the days of the BBS. Read many posts from many people, and I promise you . . . I've never encountered this level of arrogance, self-importance, and blinding condescension from any person.
Ever.
I see it's now time to move on from this comment section. At this point, all we're doing is feeding the troll the attention he so obviously craves since he's apparently not getting it in real life. That said, the Facebook fan-page appears to have a very mature and friendly community.
I recommend, if you want to make comments without it devolving into another 'pay-attention-to-me' derailment from the actual comic's storyline, go there.
I'm done with this nonstop nonsense.
Peace.
Blah, blah, blah... enough of the spiteful trolling. My apologies to the respectful posters on here for putting up with the troll while I was away. Even though Greg made me an official moderator of this page, I am not on here every day. Although I will try to be in the future.
Hmmm, not wanting to know what was said in the "comments deleted" as I can see enough hate just watching the evening news reporting on the government.
I can understand a lot of folks who find Sergi being on the "no way in hell" list, but we should also understand his English is not as strong as Jake's, so there may be things missing in translation. We should also understand Sergi has a back story that may account for his rough behavior, or perhaps a societal upbringing that Sergi brings with him that makes him appear "rough" to domestic folks.
Let's not paint Sergi with the brush, you know already how that brush paints us all as gay men with just one color and not the multitude of colors we are.
I don't know Barak. Sergei seems to know the English language quite well. I mean, he called Eduardo a teenager, and insistently calling Eduardo a high school boy while insulting Jake's relationship seems to establish that Sergei is not lost in translation. Now, if I'm sorry or I apologize for my rudeness were in his vocabulary, I metaphorically might peel a layer of onion off to understand a bit more about him - if I knew the sincerity of what he was saying.
(Wow! What happened when I left?)
It is a curiosity of Russian culture that many people tend to let their feelings out without the filtering that we call "manners." If they're angry, you get their anger. If they're peeved, happy, resentful, overjoyed, etc....that's what you get.
Then, as soon as they've unloaded on you, they're their usual selves, and they can't understand why you're unhappy at their behavior.
You see this in Russian novels, but also in life if you know Russians. This is not a stereotype; it's the way their culture works, comparable to, say, the English habit of understating everything. It's not genetic: it's a behavioral norm.
So that may be why Sergei is rude. Or he may just be one of those people who gets aggressive when his will is thwarted. He sensed that Jake was unimpressed with him and he retaliated. You can get that from anyone, Russian or not.
