This is your chance, Kyle. Rise like a Phoenix, and start fresh. Breyer lied, and now he doesn't care enough to even fight to save the relationship. --Ray
And leave words unsaid, feelings -- good or bad -- untapped, issues unresolved, anger not dealt with, or love not expressed? No thank you to you, Unknown. Run, Kyle, to Breyer (and he will). Start those conversations that Rudy told you about...even if the relationship ends.
Not having any communication for a few weeks is more than a pause. Breyer was wrong for gaslighting Kyle - the real transgression and betrayal is the coverup, not the minor 7 minute act. Rudy's advice is spot on - a couple should discuss the situation. Why did Breyer engage with the stranger - has Kyle been withholding affection? Does Breyer have low self-esteem (because of his smaller endowment) and a stranger made him feel sexy again? Was the guy in the woods so hot even Kyle would have done the same? Why the lie? The explanation to Brad seemed weird. More likely the sight of housemates was so embarrassing he had to cover up, and once you start even a small lie, it's hard to come clean, particularly in a house of gossipy gays. Hopefully either the relationship can be repaired, or if not, Kyle, Breyer (and this storyline) find closure. Breyer shouldn't leave without a farewell at least (btw does Breyer have a green card or has he become a citizen?).
It was nice to see Rudy, would be nice to see Dave since there is an advertising pitch in a recent storyline. Price is probably up to something. Where's Delia? Will we ever see the gay neighbors next door? Is anyone moving into the new rooms in the Barn (maybe seasonal guests)? Will Darren and Eduardo get together and stop bothering people in the woods? What about those shady bear guys Richard knows? And Jeremy - what's life like working on an airline in the age of Covid? Will Lance and Drew move in together, or visit the Danvers dowm in Alabama? So many possibilities -
...well, looks like Kyle's gonna have to pull out his cojones to run to Breyer....he should've pulled out BREYER'S cojones, to make him STAY! ...ha-HAAA!!
...I pitched a story-line like this to Greg years ago, for Kyle / Breyer's characters, and, while it's nice to see them FINALLY getting story-time interest, I'm somewhat losing respect for Kyle; his wishy-washy demeanor within this story arc made me mad, that he didn't find courage within himself, to confront Breyer, to tell the 'gossipy gays' to mind their beeswax,& to work out the relationship with HONEST talk & emotional support...
...Kyle wants domestic bliss SO bad, that he looking at the 'picture', but NOT the 'frame', if ya get me; Brey has insecurity issues, and his gaslighting & 'dalliance' are CLEAR signs...Kyle has to stop making up those Beds, and, get INTO one! ...with Breyer!
..I KNEW Rudy's mature views & advice would save the day...it also saved the STORYLINE! ..I think Kyles gonna be the one to BEAT, when "The Man Of Year" poll for 2021, rolls around! ..ha-HAAA!!
it's nice to see the wisdom of age that can speak both frankly about sex (without being smarmy) and also sympathetically to the complexity of a relationship.
I would love to see the B&B annual fall foliage walk and apple picking occur in Everhard Woods. I wonder how many other B&B residents have surreptitiously visited - certainly Richard who knew camera placements and angles.
Man of the Year will likely be Mannis once again, though I've a sneaking suspicion we'll see an uptick in votes for Breyer.
Kyle is the one who should have taken control of the situation weeks ago. He allowed his 'friends' to trash his boyfriend (even physically) with no repercussions. He allowed his b/f to omit portions of the truth, by never really putting him on the spot. Then he goes on a 'break' for weeks in their relationship without ever dealing with anything. Now Breyer is obviously moving on and Kyle's freaking out. I'm a strong believer in creating your own reality. Sure, he didn't cause Breyer's indiscretion (and Breyer should have handled things differently), but the whole rest of the situation occurred because Kyle allowed it to happen. Based on the characters, I doubt he will take any responsibility and his friends will cheer him for it.
I’ll preface this by saying that writers have to take risks on occasion to create a moving, complex story. That said I have watched this sensationalized storyline unfold and I still don't like how any of this has played out. Yes, it’s been an involving story but not in the ways that I would have liked. Both Kyle and Breyer have done things that are contrary to their core character-Breyer giving in to temptation, lying about it, and then making Kyle feel bad about it, all of this was out of the blue. Where did the sweet, faithful, blunt but fair, and adorably insecure Breyer go? It's like he had to become a villain just for the sake of this storyline. And Kyle not being politely assertive or rationally decisive about this-which he is with everyone else-so it's hard to believe he had trouble figuring this all out and accepting that his relationship with Breyer was in deep trouble. I agree with the points made by Ivan, Frank, and RBS7079 about the story. Also, I like what raven wrote about Rudy, so true, and he has been absent for far too long. So, I'll add that I'm divided on how this story should end. Yes, Wrangler Man, I might like Kyle to blast over to Breyer and try to salvage their relationship too but, on the other hand maybe it is too late for any of that. Breyer might have realized his relationship with Kyle is damaged beyond repair and that it is best that he drives back to Canada to move on, having learned the hard way from these terrible mistakes. Maybe a "downer" ending is needed for this story so that everyone who helped make a bad situation worse (Richard & Brad especially) learns something meaningful. At some point maybe Steve, the angel could bring Breyer back to reconcile with Kyle. That's my take.
"...maybe a 'downer' ending is needed for this story so that everyone who helped make a bad situation worse, learns something meaningful...'
...you thought about this too, 'eh!? ...As much as I like 'storybook' endings (if presented realistically), I'm liking that may NOT be the case, for Brey N' Kyle; They 'fit' on paper, and, never exuded what it SHOULD'VE been...a hot, nasty, SEX relationship, with mutual respect for one another....
...Kyle did NOT come off well in this story-arc, with his indecisiveness, & letting other outside influences infiltrate his opinion; Brey HAS come off like a villain, out of nowhere....but, who HASN'T questioned a betrayal or 'dalliance', in THEIR own relationship(s), that whacked them, outta the blue!??
...It's a STORY, in a comic strip...tension, shock, thrills, & twists are NEEDED, to make us come back bi-weekly, and comment...and I hope Greg cooks up sumpthin' HOT, to make us yap in the next post!
Wait a minute: why should Kyle have to be the one to "blast over to salvage the relationship?" Kyle didn't get caught lying, Breyer did. Someone made a mention about Breyer having low self-esteem because he's not hung. How's that Kyle's fault? If Breyer was having issues then he should've discussed it with Kyle. If Breyer wanted to play around, he should've discussed it with Kyle. One minute you people say "dump Breyer" and next you say "Kyle should salvage the relationship" Which is it? Also, if Breyer is moving then wouldn't this be another form of emotional manipulation like he did when he tried to get Kyle to have sex with him AFTER he got caught lying...? I know that you people here won't answer this because after all, there is a clique in the comments section going on but come on.....
J.D. Thanks for your comments and your response. Whether he salvages his relationship with Breyer or not, Kyle should communicate with Breyer. I've known far too many relationships that end with conflicts, emotions, problems, and...I hate the word but...issues left unresolved. If Kyle and Breyer go their separate ways...fine.But don't leave anything unresolved. And I just try to remember that in a relationship there's always two sides. Too often, we talk, but don't listen. Maybe Kyle needs to listen to Breyer.
Hi Wrangler Man, you're most welcome and thank you for your thoughtful response :). I'd love to see Kyle and Breyer have an honest, passionate conversation too, whether they split up or try to repair their relationship. It seems like there is some unresolved inner conflicts in both characters that have finally boiled over. Another thought I had was that it would be cool to see a major conflict like this one have a "Choose Your Own Adventure" set of possibilities discussed within the story since this storyline has encouraged readers to think about in that way from the beginning.
@Jack The comments some have made about saving the relationship don't necessarily reflect inconsistent thoughts or choosing Breyer over Kyle. Practically everyone stated Breyer's most egregious behavior was not the unexpected quick encounter, rather the lie, gaslighting, making Kyle feel guilty. Despite my complaint this storyline has exceeded the length of the Biden/Harris administration, it does raise interesting discourse about relationships, trust, loyalty and privacy. It's a fictional comic with situations real people face. Greg may have his characters engage differently than we would - that happens in all media/fiction. We watch horror movies where the victim goes into the house when the whole audience is yelling don't go in there! We'll see (in a continuing installment) whether Kyle cares if Breyer is leaving. Maybe he'll want to salvage and rebuild the relationship, maybe he'll say good riddance (as they've not spoken for several weeks). A handjob with a stranger in the sex forest is really minor from some perspectives, or a major transgression for others. What's important is being truthful and trustworthy which this story does a good job to discuss. I'm certain in a few years when this storyline wraps, we'll see Breyer and Kyle reach a point of mutual agreement and understanding. We only hope the audience and housemates will respect their decision, and focus instead on celebrating Nick and Dave's 10th anniversary. Will be buying Greg's book to see what happened at that wedding reception. Tchau ~ Frank

...You said it BEST, Kid; ...I've known for QUITE the while that, as an ARTIST, Greg didn't have any more 'colours' to add to the Kyle / Breyer characters; Breyer is a hotheaded Man-BEAST, who would want smokin' Sex ALL the time, and wants to pound booty into the mattress...HOW am I to believe he wants to clean toilets, go to Comic Book conventions, & fold the linens?
...His action (within this story-arc) were out of character, but BELIEVABLE, to cause Kyle to break it off with him.... BUT! ...If they truly want it to work, just like in REAL LIFE, either talk it out...or, hit the road....
..I've BEEN sayin' I'm missing the other characters...Sergei? ..Mannis? Darren? ...where ARE you?
...END IT. End THIS. Kyle needs closure, Breyer needs to go, but RESOLVE is needed for these Guys...It's been fun, Boys... :_ (
@Frank: I agree that it does raise questions about loyalty and honesty. Too many gay relationships are not steep in that aspect and I truly think that this is an issue to be resolved in a lot of gay male relationships. I think that it's not the handjob, I think that it's a matter of: "Is he being truthful with it being 'just a handjob'". In other words, it's the implication of "what else..." I do think that closure will occur at some point but for me, it was the whole notion of "it's Kyle's fault that Breyer has insecurities" thing that bothered me. Look, you can be a great guy and still be gaslighted and that's what occurred. To me, Breyer's leaving only serves as a form of manipulation and it pulls at Kyle's subconscious to have a stable and loving relationship no matter the cost. I believe that Breyer is aware of this and his (Breyer) narcissistic intentions can manipulate this. You make some good points though and thank you for not being one of these cliquish queens who only respond to each other.
@Jack, I agree that this isn't Kyle's fault. It is Breyer's, from the very, very beginning. The second he was spotted by two people in Kyle's direct orbit, he should have told Kyle everything. He didn't. He then proceeded to lie about it, until Kyle apologized for not trusting him. Then he came clean. Now, despite knowing that he was wrong, and affording Kyle, his space, he has decided to leave, without telling Kyle. It is clear that Breyer does not respect Kyle. He has avoided the "truth" with Kyle from the very beginning. Kyle is not responsible for Breyer's insecurities or trying to make Breyer stay. If Kyle has self-respect, he can call Breyer and say, "Hey, I heard you were leaving. Because of our relationship, I am going to assume you were going to tell me, at some point. Maybe. At any rate, thank you for the time we spent together, and I wish you the best." Kyle should not fight for someone who doesn't want him, at the very least, doesn't want to talk to him about the really important things like who they are having sex with, where they are living, etc. I don't mind the length of this storyline. It is Kyle's Bed and Breakfast after all, not Eduardo, Sergei, etc. If the central relationship in this comic is going to fall apart, let's spend time with it and not rush to another story. Explore it in all its messiness. Because this storyline has been messy, like in real life. I think Greg has done a great job with it. I do agree that some kind of "final" comic between the two needs to occur. Even if there is no conversation, and it is simply Kyle going to Breyer's and finding it empty. That in and of itself is closure, and it is real.
I have been in this type of relationship and it never ends well. All Breyer had to do was, to tell the truth in its entirety instead of playing this guessing game. He chose not to. He was going to allow Kyle to apologize before he said anything. He even got irate when Kyle's friends told on him. Now, we have this latest edition on Breyer pulling yet another manipulative move in moving out. Were I Kyle, I'd let him go becuase Breyer is already at that point to where he can't be trusted. I agree with you, why fight for someone who apparently doesn't want him? I don't think that anyone deserves that. I applaud his friends for telling Kyle that this occurred. That's the problem: we and Kyle don't know exactly what happened because Breyer is a liar and he let his insecurities get the best of him....I DO think that what you suggested in terms of Kyle finding Breyer's room empty is brilliant and it would be even more poignant if there were no words. Great post!
