I have found Breyer's behaviour through all this story despicable (and I don't care about the moment of weakness that started everything). Fleeing away without telling his boyfriend is just the cherry on the cake. Good riddance, I say.

Breyer checked OUT, and, his recent actions indicate he wanted 'out', for some time...He's always been insecure,& felt Kyle was "too good" for him; KYLE, acted that way also, and (unknowingly) set a threshold of 'wants' that Brey felt he couldn't reach....

I must say that I agree with UNKNOWN: Breyer was going to leave without even telling him or discussing it with him. As if Kyle was some dishrag. WOW. Kyle's better off without him. It appears as if Breyer's brain is as small as his little pee-pee. But in this "gay society" Breyer will find a lot of guys not settling for...less...
C.W.S., you're right he hasn't actually left yet. I had thought it might end this way, which would be good in some ways, but as a fan I have mixed feelings about this once again. Breyer has become an example of the Character Derailment television trope in this sense of the term: "When an established character becomes largely different, exhibiting behavior contrary to what has been previously shown. This is not a matter of organic growth" and also this storyline is like The Conflict Ball trope too-character derailment for the sake of drama. He has been written so far away from who he originally was that there might no way to salvage him unless he loses his memory-another trope but a potentially interesting one at least. This happens often in comics and other media. Let's recall some BNB history. When a besotted Richard tried to make out with Breyer he was offended but didn't rush to tell Kyle. He eventually told Kyle and Kyle didn't hesitate to get angry and throw Richard out. So, after that Kyle and Richard patched things up and Richard and Breyer did too. Breyer even developed a friendship with Richard and Richard's mom but then all of that just vanished. Suddenly, no one really knew who Breyer was and Brad, of all people-(He is protective of Kyle but, he's no Jessica Fletcher!) always thought Breyer was "shady". I think I actually would have preferred it if Breyer had died in some heroic manner, maybe sacrificing himself to save Rudy or Frosty. This current Breyer might as well have been some other guy. But as RBS7079 has said Breyer and Kyle aren't exactly well meshed. Kyle is conservative in some ways, introverted, upper middle class, undemonstrative, and doesn't have anal sex. Breyer is a more sensual, blunt, direct guy who has had a very hard life and is working class. I love to see two sweet men from different backgrounds bond in a complementary relationship. Also, it is true that Breyer had not been given anything truly interesting to do for a very long time. He was Kyle's personal stud, BNB eye candy, and the hockey fan. Breyer's best stories were his poignant reconciliation with Shelley, his mother and his sweet, early courting moments with Kyle. The jockstrap maid scenario was admittedly hot. I agree with KarmaKat and WranglerMan in that there is more to be reflected on here because this whole plotline leaves more questions than it answers.
....WHEW! ...you had more to say about this situation, than ME! ...ha-HAAA!! ...Now, even though you had good points about Breyer's personality change, I believe the writing was on the wall for awhile, with the small details in "KB&B"'s previous posts....
- remember when Kyle waited for Brey to come back from Canada, to see "The Joker" flick, and Brey said he SAW it already, without Kyle? ....THAT, was My signal, that the Love was dwindling...
- OR, the time when Brey did the 'jockstrap Maid' thing...Kyle KNEW, but waited for Brey to mention it, but he didn't... THEN, He got a gig at Burger King(?), and Kyle(The Vegetarian), STILL respected him, and stuck by his side....
- But, when Kyle & the Ice Skater got detained in Russia, Breyer's emotive stance during the ordeal wasn't even mentioned; all we got, was that he 'looked hot' when he didn't shave(bringing in the 'pornstache' period)...a CLEAR sign, there wasn't anything for Greg to add emotionally, to his character....
..I LOVED Breyer, but his character reached his climax; He never fully committed by moving in w/ Kyle, saying 'I Love You', showing TRUE commitment...His manipulation & gaslighting in this story-arc, SHOWS he wants Kyle to think of him badly...because he feels that way, about HIMSELF...
...let's rip the Band-aid off, Kids....'Bye, Breyer...๐ข...
Yes:0) that was almost an essay or treatise ;) As a Torontonian and Canadian, Breyer was there giving us Torontonian, Canadian gays some representation in an internationally published, and critically acclaimed, gay American comic. It was great that he got to be a part of Kyle's world and the BNB adventures. So, that added to the disappointment. Plus, Breyer was one of the sexiest characters in the strip especially with his moustache, subcompact package, working class masculinity, and penchant for wearing red jocks & thongs. The little bits of distancing between Kyle and Brey didn't seem to be a big deal cumulatively because Kyle didn't seem too bothered about any of it. All of it seems to fit together in a "take look in the rear view mirror" or "hindsight is 20/20" way. Thanks very much for your thoughtful and fun reply.
I will miss Breyer (except that moustache). There was potential for his character which never materialized - maybe it's best to see him go, perhaps he can return for Lance and Drew's wedding, if that might ever happen. It will be a relief to see this story which started in January reach a conclusion.
Let's revisit the possibilities of that barn converted to a new wing. How about Delia moving in, the B&B can use her Bronx savvy and realness. Maybe she'll date Darren's fellow police officer Lisa Lazzarano (see Ep. 563). Is Kristian returning? Are Eduardo and Darren connecting, or even just hooking up? How about the doppleganger of the evil Terrance - even he would be welcome at this point. Greg, surprise us with some new directions ~ it would even be fun for your creative juices to explore underutilized cast members, maybe occasionally bring back a former resident sometimes. Try out some short term guests at Kyle's, or have some storylines revolving around nearby places like NYC or Fire Island. Northport is a lovely place in real life I can attest, but quiet enough people definitely leave it for excitement. Wishing Breyer a warm adieu and hope he finds what he's looking for out west (perhaps Colorado or Washington State - lots of woods). Until next time ~ Tchau. Frank
The Chinese characters (ๅๅนณ) on Kyle's shirt translates to: ๅ "with" and ๅนณ "level, equal, calm." The two characters are usually read together as one concept as "peace, calm, harmony, serenity, quiet, ..." (you get the idea)
A lot of comments miss the point. Yes men make mistakes but real men own their mistakes and do not lie. Breyer is not trustworthy and a bit immature. He needs to go off on his own and Kyle needs to move on.
This is the inevitable end of this storyline. It is a shame that even in the end, Breyer couldn't be honest with Kyle. Kyle asked him straight out, were you going to tell me or just send me a cryptic text, and Breyer deflected. If Kyle wouldn't have shown up, he wouldn't have told him. Like someone said a month or two ago, when Breyer when to see Joker without Kyle and didn't tell him, that was the beginning of the end. It may even have been before then (jock strap cleaning service, etc). It's clear that the two of them did not communicate well or clearly. Each had their own baggage that they were not willing to unpack, and rather they just kept sweeping it under various rugs.
I am actually going through a break-up at the moment, and it is quite painful and also very sudden, and it is rooted in deep communication issues. For us, I believe that a 13 year age difference is a large part of our inability to "hear" the other person. My boyfriend is ready for retirement and I still have to work for 20 years, at least. He has a pension from teaching and wants to move to Europe and live on the cheap, and I have no romantic notions on poverty (I already grew up poor, I don't want it again.) Alas, we are trying to keep it amicable, and it is, and will be. I don't think the love we have is going away, it's just not available for the other person right now because how did he put it "It's also knowing that I have many more life choices available to me that you don't have or won't consider."
Break ups and breaking up is never easy. It's never clean, despite Seinfeld and Jeanne Garafalo's break up appearing to be otherwise. It is always messy and both parties are injured. The goal is to not intentionally injure the other that you have shared so much time with.
I am saddened and full of grief because the life I had, we were having, was not wanted or appreciated. My boyfriend sees a glorious rainbow in a green field of Italy and I see money we don't have available to us right now resulting in a lot of financial chaos.
I only share this because, I have to get it out somehow. The pain and heartbreak is too overwhelming to process in the office today, especially when it is a construction site full of mostly "straight" men who don't exactly process their feelings in the open.
I don't know how long Breyer and Kyle have been together but I don't know if I see him jumping into the dating pool all that quickly. My cousin tells me, the quickest way to get over someone is to get under someone else. That isn't who I am anymore. This is going to sting for a while - six years together is going to take a while to process.

Well, he hasn't left yet, and they're getting kind of close in that last panel...
I prefer for Kyle to stay with Brey. But this time, Brey needs to move in and LIVE with Kyle.
